It’s never good, but if the pilot is ok and the jet looks intact, it was a "good" crash

Would love to see video of that - usually the ejection comes before the crash. (duh?) The ACES II chair is capable of a zero airspeed/zero altitude ejection though, so it is doable.

yes, I do suspect the “after” is a poorly worded headline.

Looks like more of an unplanned landing, the aircraft is still intact.

Any landing you can walk away from right.

Looks like a very fine job of putting the bird on the ground. Hopefully the pilot is well.

Your goddamn right. There was a crash at a local airshow last year that killed 11 spectators but the pilot survived without ejecting. I was simply astonished, he is back to living his normal life until it is decide whether he was yo blame or not. I won’t post pics because it wouldn’t be appropriate. Google “Shoreham Airshow Crash” if you wanted to take a look. It’s amazing what people can survive.

I too am about 50 miles away from this incident (in DTC). It is good we are getting our stories straight so we cannot be blamed.

Pretty sure he ejected before the Thunderbird crashed, but what do I know.

I was just discussing that crash with my brother last week and I wondered how the pilot had fared with his injuries. At fault or not I’m glad it sounds like he’s been able to physically recover (at least enough to return home). That tragedy had enough death as it is. Do you know the extent of the injuries the pilot suffered and how complete his recovery has been from them?

There’s little known about his specific injuries but he was put in a medically induced coma for a few weeks and appears to have fully recovered. The tabloids were trying to make a big deal of the fact he was driving a Boxster around January, so he is mobile enough to get in and out of a Porsche.
